About the workshop…

As a teacher, I’m always trying to find more ways to help students discover who they are as dancers and artists, but I find that I rarely get the opportunity to dig into their potential as a dancer in a normal class setting.

I’ve developed this One-Day Contemporary Dance Workshop to allow dancers the opportunity to greater understand themselves as movers and artist. Over the last decade I've established myself as a professional contemporary dancer, teacher, and choreographer In NYC and I'm excited to share my experience with the next generation of dancers from Houston!

SCHEDULE:

10-11:30 PM | Contemporary Class

11:30-12:30 PM | Contemporary Skills

12:30-1 PM | Lunch

1-2 PM | Improv + Collaboration

2-3 PM | Artist Development + Future Planning

Throughout the day, we will work on a variety of contemporary dance techniques including floor work, partnering and fundamentals of release technique. I’ll help dancers understand these ideas and how they relate to musicality, timing, and moving through space efficiently.

Collaboration and improvisation are two necessary skill to have in the contemporary dance field today. Through a variety of tasks and games, dancers will learn how to be an asset to any contemporary choreographer.

In the artist development portion of the day, I will dive into what kind of dancer each student wants to become and facilitate conversation around how they can be more active participants in a creative setting. How can we be our best selves both in and out of the studio? What does applying and dancing in college look like? After college? How can we connect our passion of dance to a fulfilling life/career in the arts?
