WHY DIRECT BOOKING THROUGH INSTAGRAM?

Instagram is where we go to “continue the conversation.” It’s the place we go to follow-up after we connect with someone in real life but can also act as an introduction.

I like to think of Instagram as a “real-time resume.” People can check out my profile, see what I’ve been up to, and connect with me all in one place. Here I can share my values as a mover and engage with a variety of artists (choreographers, directors, casting agents, teachers, etc.) who are all hanging out there.

If you’ve ever auditioned for a dance job, you know that it’s not always the smoothest process… in reality it’s stressful, crowded, and often an imperfect way to cast and hire dancers. More often than not, shows and companies hold auditions to fill a limited number of spots on their already full roster.

This is where the magic of direct booking comes in.

Instagram is both a great active and passive way of networking with the people we want to work with. By sharing what I’m up to, where I’m based, and what my career interests are online, I allow dance makers and creatives to align their own vision with mine.

Now, whenever these creatives have a job to offer, I’m at the front of their mind. They can have the confidence that I’ll be able to help achieve their vision because they’ve already seen a fraction of what I can offer.

WHATS INSIDE?

Throughout this e-book I offer a series of prompts that dancers can use to share their skills and talents online. These 20 prompts include main feed posts, story posts, reels, and IG lives.

You’ll find that these prompts:

  • Are simple and repeatable

  • Allow you to incorporate your own creativity

  • Promote connection

  • Help you network while you sleep

Hi, I’m Brandon!

In the summer of 2017, I got a DM from a choreographer who I’ve dreamed of dancing for. I did one of their works in college and attended a one week intensive with them two years prior to this instagram invite. This was the start of my direct booking journey.

However, I started my career in 2015 as a company member with Visceral Dance Chicago. While in the midwest I also worked as a guest artist with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and the Cambrians.

After two year of full-time company life, I moved to NYC to pursue a freelance career. Here I danced for the Metropolitan Opera ballet at Lincoln Center, KEIGWIN + COMPANYVim Vigor Dance Company,  Belinda McGuire Dance Projects, and as a performer in Punchdrunk’s, Sleep No More.

Up to this point, I’m so grateful for the incredible projects I’ve gotten to be a part of and I’m excited to help other dancers do the same!

Through my podcast, Breaking the Wall Podcast, and a series of one-on-one and group coaching programs like SHIFT and PROS, I have been working to help early career dancers book work they love and build long, fulfilling careers.

I’ve never booked a job without knowing someone on the other side of the table first. While class and workshops served as my introduction to many choreographers and directors, Instagram was the place I continued these relationships and kept them up to date about where I was and what I was doing.
